Dr. Shruti Tapiawala is a senior consultant at Gleneagles Hospital, Mumbai, specializing in nephrology and kidney transplantation. She completed her MD in Internal Medicine from B.Y.L. Nair Hospital and T.N. Medical College. She trained in nephrology and renal transplantation under Dr. Vidya Acharya and Dr. Bharat Shah at P.D. Hinduja National Hospital, Mumbai. After obtaining her DNB in Nephrology, she pursued a 2-year fellowship in adult nephrology at the University Health Network, Toronto, focusing on home hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, and lupus nephritis.
She also completed a Multi-Organ Transplant fellowship and worked in HLA laboratories at Toronto Medical Labs, gaining expertise in advanced diagnostics for multiorgan transplantation. Dr. Tapiawala has extensive experience managing patients undergoing kidney, kidney-pancreas, heart, lung, and liver transplants and has actively contributed to immunological risk stratification for transplant recipients. She has presented research in HLA medicine at international meetings and has worked with renowned nephrologists, including Dr. Joanne Bargman, Dr. Daniel Cattran, and Dr. Kathryn Tinckam.
Dr. Tapiawala initiated the SORTER registry in India in 2018, aimed at matching sensitized organ recipients with suitable donors following international protocols. She holds memberships in prestigious societies including the American Society of Transplantation, Canadian Society of Transplantation, and Indian Society of Nephrology.
